NSW police charge teens with property offences

Further charges laid following investigations into a number of property-related offences in the state’s north east.

Operation Western Mongoose was established last month, to investigate property offences including, the theft of vehicles during break-ins from homes in Oxley Police District.

On Wednesday 20 April 2022, police arrested a 15-year-old boy – wanted on outstanding warrants – at Tamworth Train Station.

The warrants were executed, and the teen remain before the courts.

Following an investigation into the alleged theft of a Toyota Prado from Moree and two vehicles – a Volkswagen Golf and Amarok – from the Tamworth suburb of Calala, in April, the 15-year-old has now been charged with three additional offences of be carried in conveyance taken w/o consent of owner

He is next due to appear at a children’s court tomorrow (Monday 2 May 2022).

IN a separate incident, officers were patrolling the South Tamworth area today (Sunday 1 May 2022), when they located a stolen Kia Sorento parked outside a home on Hillvue Road about 6.40am.

Following inquiries, three teens – two boys aged 14 and 15 and a 14-year-old girl – were arrested at a nearby home.

They were taken to Tamworth Police Station where the younger boy was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear at a children’s court tomorrow.

The older boy and girl will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.

Strikeforce Western Mongoose was established this week consisting of police from the Detectives, Proactive Crime and Crime Prevention Unit within the Oxley police District, Western Region Enforcement Squad, Traffic and Highway Command, Youth Command and Dog Unit.
