Drug and Firearms Squad detectives have charged three people after seizing a shortened rifle, ammunition, prohibited drugs and $8000 cash in the state’s Hunter Region.
In February this year, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Drug and Firearms Squad established Strike Force Drail to investigate the supply of prohibited drugs and firearms across the state.
Following extensive investigations, strike force detectives executed four search warrants at properties at Cessnock yesterday (Thursday 22 April 2021).
During the searches, detectives seized a shortened rifle, mobile phones, ammunition and $8000 cash.
Officers also seized prohibited drugs – including methamphetamine (ice) and cannabis.
All items seized during the operation will undergo further examination.
A 27-year-old woman and two men – aged 34 and 26 – were arrested during the operation and taken to Cessnock Police Station.
The woman was charged with two counts of possess prohibited drug and supply prohibited drug. She was refused bail and appeared at Cessnock Local Court yesterday (22 April 2021).
The younger man was charged with three counts of supply prohibited drug, deal with property proceeds of crime, possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority, custody of knife in public place, possess ammunition without holding permit, possess prohibited plant, and possess prohibited drug.
The older man was charged with supply prohibited drug.
Both men were refused bail to appear at Cessnock Local Court today (Friday 23 April 2021).
Investigations by the Drug and Firearms Squad are continuing.
