A man and teenager will face court today charged after an alleged aggravated break and enter and pursuit in the state’s west yesterday.
About 10am (Thursday 14 October 2021), a male teenager allegedly entered a home in Zouch St, Wellington, armed with a knife.
The male allegedly threatened the occupant, demanding keys to a car, before he stole personal items and fled in a Toyota Camry.
The occupant was not physically injured and notified police.
The male, aged 17, drove the Camry to another address in Wellington, where a 52-year-old man entered the vehicle.
About 11.30am, officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District were patrolling the Mitchell Highway, when they attempted to stop the vehicle at Wongarbon.
The vehicle failed to stop as directed and a pursuit was initiated.
It was terminated a short time later in Macquarie Street, Dubbo, due to safety concerns.
The Camry crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of Bligh and Erskine Streets, Dubbo. The four occupants of the other vehicle were not injured.
The two occupants of the Camry fled, with the teenager allegedly assaulting a member of the public who attempted to intervene. He was taken to Dubbo Base Hospital for treatment of a facial laceration.
Officers arrested the teenager and older man nearby and they were taken to Dubbo Police Station.
The 17-year-old was charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence – armed, cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent, police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, negligent driving, and never licensed person drive vehicle on road.
He was refused bail and will appear at a children’s court today (Friday 15 October 2021).
The 52-year-old man was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and breach of bail.
He was refused bail and will appear at Dubbo Local Court today.
