NSW police charge two after drug investigation at Wollongong 29 September

Two men have been charged following an ongoing investigation into the alleged supply of prohibited drugs in the Illawarra region.

In August 2021, officers attached to Wollongong Police District established Strike Force Nitrogen to investigate the alleged commercial supply of methylamphetamine in the Wollongong and Lake Illawarra areas.

Following extensive inquiries, about 1.45pm yesterday (Tuesday 28 September 2021), police – with the assistance of Bass Hill Region Enforcement Squad – intercepted an alleged drug deal in Beverley Street, Campbelltown, and arrested two men aged 44 and 37.

Police will allege in court the older man had purchased 35g of methylamphetamine from the younger man, for $11,000.

It will be further alleged the older man travelled to the Campbelltown area daily to purchase the illicit substances from the younger man, to distribute in the Illawarra.

The drug and cash were seized, and the men were taken to Campbelltown Police Station.

The 44-year-old man was charged with:

– supply prohibited drug – greater than large commercial quantity

– ongoing supply prohibited drug

– operate drug premises

– participate in criminal group contribute criminal activity

– deal with property proceeds of crime

The Balgownie man was refused bail to appear in Campbelltown Local Court today (Wednesday 29 September 2021).

A subsequent search warrant was executed at a home on Duncan Street, Balgownie that afternoon, where officers seized cannabis and ammunition.

The 37-year-old man was charged with supply prohibited drug – greater than large commercial quantity.

The Campbelltown man was refused bail to appear in Campbelltown Local Court on Wednesday 24 November 2021.

Investigations under Strike Force Nitrogen continue; further arrests are expected.
