Two men will face court today charged after two cats were allegedly killed as a result of a neighbourhood dispute.
Police will allege about 9pm Friday (27 March 2020) two cats wandered onto the property next door and were suffocated in an esky, before being thrown back over the fence the next morning.
The owner of the cats – a 47-year-old man – allegedly approached his 24-year-old neighbour about 3.30pm yesterday (Sunday 29 March 2020) and a physical altercation ensued.
The younger man allegedly punched his neighbour in the face before the older man threw various items at him, including a garden edger and concrete paver.
The two men then armed themselves with a block splitter and axe handle, before striking one another.
The younger man sustained lacerations to his face and arm, while the older man sustained lacerations to his face and shoulder.
Officers from Murray River Police District were called and attended the properties a short time later. The two men were arrested and taken to Deniliquin Police Station.
The 24-year-old man was charged with torture, beat etc and cause death of animal, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, armed with intent to commit indictable offence, destroy or damage property and threaten to destroy or damage another person’s property.
The 47-year-old man was charged with armed with intent to commit indictable offence, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic).
The two men were refused bail and are due to appear before Wagga Wagga Local Court today via video link.
