NSW police charge two over series of aggravated robberies across Sydney’s south-west

A man and a woman will face court today charged over an alleged series of aggravated robberies targeting people selling phones online across Sydney’s south-west.

On Wednesday 30 October 2019, a 20-year-old woman was selling her phone through an online trading website when she was contacted by another woman to purchase the item. The two women arranged to meet in Eighth Avenue, Campsie, at 11.30am the next day.

When the 20-year-old woman arrived, a Holden Astra sedan, believed to be stolen, stopped in front of her.

The front passenger, another woman, allegedly tried to grab the two phones in her hands before the male driver began to drive off; dragging the 20-year-old woman 30 metres down the street.

The 20-year-old woman let go of the phones and was taken to Canterbury Hospital in a stable condition, suffering cuts to her arm, torso and legs.

About 7.40pm on Monday 4 November 2019, a man and woman arranged to meet with a 23-year-old man outside a supermarket in Faraday Road, Padstow, to purchase a phone he was selling through an online trading website.

When the 23-year-old man arrived, the pair allegedly threatened him before stealing the phone.

About 2.15pm on Saturday 30 November 2019, after arranging to meet to sell his phone, a 30-year-old man was allegedly dragged down Dartford Street, Mt Pritchard, by a Holden Astra sedan, driven by a man. The passenger of the vehicle, a woman, allegedly stole the phone.

The 30-year-old man was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.

About 9.30pm on Monday 9 December 2019, a 30-year-old man was allegedly assaulted, knocked to the ground and had his phone stolen after agreeing to sell the item to a man and woman outside a unit complex in Meredith Street, Bankstown.

Detectives from Fairfield City Police Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, detectives arrested a 24-year-old woman outside a home in Rose Street, Liverpool, just after 2.40pm yesterday (Wednesday 11 December 2019). A 24-year-old man was arrested nearby after a short foot pursuit before the pair were taken to Fairfield Police Station.

The man was charged with three counts of aggravated robbery in company, robbery in company, two counts of drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and three outstanding warrants.

The woman was charged with three counts of aggravated robbery in company, and robbery in company.

Both were refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court today (Thursday 12 December 2019).
