NSW police charge woman after theft and assault

A woman will face court today after allegedly stealing from a supermarket and assaulting a man in the CBD.

About 2.30pm (Thursday 12 December 2019), officers attached to Police Transport & Public Safety Command were conducting Project Servator at Town Hall Station.

Project Servator sees police, businesses, community partners and the public working together to disrupt criminal activity and keep people safe in public places.

It sees the deployment of both high visibility and plain clothed police officers, including those specially trained to spot the tell-tale signs of individuals who may be planning to commit a crime.

During the deployment the officers were alerted to reports of a woman stealing from a supermarket on George Street.

Allegedly a staff member attempted to stop a shoplifter before she was assaulted, and the woman fled the scene.

After a short pursuit by foot, officers arrested the woman who was taken to Day Street Police Station.

The 28-year-old was charged with larceny and assault. Officers executed an outstanding warrant at the time of the arrest for deal with proceeds of crime.

She was bail refused to appear at Central Local Court today (Friday 13 December 2019).
