NSW police lay charges after house fires at Guildford

A man is due to appear in court today charged after two houses in Guildford were damaged by fire.

About 7pm yesterday (Thursday 24 February 2022), emergency services were alerted to a house on fire on Kane Street, Guildford.

Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze; however, the house sustained significant damage.

Three hours later, emergency services responded to reports of a house alight on nearby Guildford Road, Guildford.

Fire and Rescue NSW again attended and extinguished the blaze, but that house was also significantly damaged.

Neither house was occupied at the time and there were no reports of injuries.

Following inquiries, officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command arrested a 28-year-old man nearby and took him to Granville Police Station.

Further inquiries have now linked last night’s fires with a fire at the same house on Kane Street on Wednesday (23 February 2022), when a mattress was set alight. There was only minor damage sustained.

Police have charged a Guildford man with three counts of destroy property by fire.

He has been refused bail to appear in Fairfield Local Court later today (Friday 25 February 2022).
