Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives have charged two men over an alleged home invasion in Sydney’s south earlier this month, during which another man was shot in the face.
About 9.10pm on Saturday 13 June 2020, two men – one armed with a firearm – allegedly entered a unit at Wolli Creek, threatened a group of people, before pistol-whipping a man and shooting him in the face.
The pair stole mobile phones, personal items and cash before leaving the area in a vehicle.
The injured man was taken to St George Hospital, where he underwent surgery. He has since been released.
The incident was reported by hospital staff to local police the following day (Sunday 14 June 2020).
Officers from St George Police Area Command, together with detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad, commenced an investigation under Strike Force Blyth.
Following extensive inquiries, strike force investigators, with assistance from the Tactical Operations Unit and St George Police Area Command, executed three search warrants at homes at Pemulwuy and Homebush West, and a unit at Fairfield from 6am yesterday (Wednesday 24 June 2020).
During the searches, officers seized a pellet gun, an electronic stun device and mobiles phones, as well as cannabis and cocaine.
A 24-year-old man was arrested at Pemulwuy and taken to Granville Police Station, where he was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon cause wounding (grievous bodily harm).
He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Thursday 25 June 2020).
A 23-year-old man was arrested at Homebush West and taken to Auburn Police Station, where he was also charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon cause wounding (grievous bodily harm).
He was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today.
