NSW police lay charges after South West Sydney pursuit

A man who has never held a licence has faced court today after a lengthy pursuit through South West Sydney yesterday.

About 11am (Thursday 11 July 2019), officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command attempted to stop a Nissan Maxima on Cowpasture Road, Bossley Park, after failing to stop at a red traffic signal.

The driver failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated and continued for approximately seven kilometres through Bonnyrigg, Edensor Park, and St Johns Park.

At Bonnyrigg, the Nissan mounted the footpath in New Leaf Parade and drove into parkland where PolAir continued to monitor the vehicle as it travelled through the Fairfield and Liverpool areas.

While in the Liverpool CBD, the Nissan collided with a Mazda 3 and failed to stop. The Mazda sustained minor damage; however, no one was injured.

At Edensor Park, the Nissan again entered parkland from Whitlam Avenue and became lodged on a timber bollard.

The driver, a 40-year-old man, got out and was arrested by officers who had been guided to his location by PolAir.

He was taken to Fairfield Police Station and charged with steal from person, police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, never licensed person drive vehicle on road, drive in a manner dangerous, negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm), and not give particulars to other driver.

Police will also allege in court that the man stole a handbag from a 47-year-old woman at a Bonnyrigg shopping centre on Thursday 4 July 2019.

The Bossley Park man appeared at Fairfield Local Court today (Friday 12 July 2019) and has been refused bail to appear at the same court on Wednesday 7 August 2019.
