The new Alice Springs Public Library has progressed to the detailed design phase, bringing the $20 million project another step closer to construction.
The Finocchiaro CLP Government has committed $15 million towards the project, which is being delivered in partnership with Alice Springs Town Council.
More than 450 people took part in community consultation for the concept designs, with 32 formal submissions received.
The Finocchiaro CLP Government is backing the delivery of a new public library for Alice Springs, with its $15 million investment helping progress the almost $20 million project into detailed design.
This marks another important step towards the new library which is being delivered in partnership with Alice Springs Town Council, with a $5 million investment from the Council.
Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment and Member for Braitling, Joshua Burgoyne, said it was fantastic to see another important milestone reached for the new library.
“Our Government is delivering on our commitment to Alice Springs – that’s why we have invested almost $15 million to help make this project a reality,” Minister Burgoyne said.
“We are investing in the infrastructure and facilities that will strengthen our community and make Alice Springs an even better place to live.”
Acting Minister for Logistics and Infrastructure, Marie-Clare Boothby, said the milestones showed the CLP was delivering on its pledge to make the Territory a better place to live, work, visit and invest.
“We’ve listened to Alice Springs locals and we are delivering for them – and the library is just one example of the way we’re backing Alice Springs,” Minister Boothby said.
“Whether it’s the Visitor Information Centre, the new Multicultural Centre, the Gillen Oval Multi-Sport Precinct, or a new skate park, we’re investing in the infrastructure local families and businesses need to lay down their roots and grow.
“In our year of growth, certainty, and security, we are doing exactly what we said we’d do: rebuilding the economy and restoring our lifestyle.”
Alice Springs Mayor Asta Hill said progressing to detailed design marked an important milestone in bringing a new library to life for the Alice Springs community.
“Community feedback has played a central role in shaping the concept design. By listening to the people who use and value the Library, we are working towards a facility that is accessible, functional and welcoming for everyone,” she said.
“The detailed design phase will now build on those ideas and develop the technical plans needed to prepare the project for construction.”
