NSW police lay charges after two-hour stand-off

A man has been charged after allegedly intimidating beachgoers and evading police at Bondi.

About 2.30pm yesterday (Thursday 23 January 2020), officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command attended Bondi Beach following reports of a male behaving in an intimidating matter.

Police were told a man had been approaching multiple women and allegedly engaging in a harassing and sexually-inappropriate way.

As officers approached the 38-year-old man to speak to him, he entered the water and stayed there for two hours.

With assistance from Bondi Lifeguards, an off-duty officer, Pol Air and Water Police, the man was eventually apprehended in the water on the southern end of Bondi Beach.

He was escorted to shore where he was arrested and taken to Waverley Police Station.

The man, from Woollahra, was charged with resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty, and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal).

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Waverley Local Court on Tuesday 3 March 2020.
