NSW police lay charges after woman assaulted in Sydney CBD

A man has been charged over the alleged assault of a woman in the Sydney CBD earlier this week.

Just before 1.40pm on Tuesday (25 January 2022), a 38-year-old woman attended a unit at Kent Street to meet the occupant, a 50-year-old man.

Police have been told an argument ensued, with the man allegedly assaulting and choking the woman before she was able to leave the unit.

Officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command were notified of the incident yesterday (Wednesday 26 January 2022), and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, police attended a unit at Kent Street about 4.30am today (Thursday 27 January 2022),

and arrested a 50-year-old man.

He was taken to Day Street Police Station and has now been charged with six offences,

• Intentionally choke etc person without consent (two counts)

• Common assault (three counts), and

• Assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The man has been refused bail and is due to appear at Central Local Court tomorrow (Friday 28 January 2022).
