A man will face court today charged over the alleged armed robbery of a licensed club in the Southern Highlands last weekend.
About 1pm on Saturday 22 August 2020, a man entered the club on Bessmer Street, Mittagong, and allegedly threatened staff with a firearm, demanding money.
The armed man fled with cash and was seen leaving in a vehicle.
Officers from The Hume Police District attended, and with the assistance of the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad established Strike Force Keyne to investigate the robbery.
About 6.15pm yesterday (Saturday 29 August 2020), police saw a man, carrying a duffle bag, at the intersection of Kirkham and Elizabeth Streets, Moss Vale.
After a short struggle, the 26-year-old was arrested and during a search of his possessions, officers allegedly located a shortened rifle, ammunition, and cash.
The man was taken to Moss Vale Police Station and has since been charged with robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, armed with intent commit indictable offence, possess unregistered firearm – not prohibited firearm/pistol, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, and acquire prohibited firearm – subject prohibition order.
He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Sunday 30 August 2020).
Inquiries under Strike Force Keyne are continuing.
