A woman has been charged after allegedly orchestrating a fake harassment campaign against herself which resulted in a significant police investigation and a woman wrongly arrested.
In May 2019, a woman – now aged 29 – began receiving threatening text messages on her phone. Further messages were received in July 2019.
On Wednesday 21 August 2019, the woman reported that a box containing several items including photographs and a written death threat was left at her property in St Marys and a report was made to police.
Police initiated an investigation and – based on the information provided – a 51-year-old woman was arrested at a home in Blaxland on Monday 26 August 2019. She was taken to Springwood Police Station where she was issued with an Apprehended Violence Order.
During further investigations by detectives from Nepean Police Area Command, telecommunications evidence and CCTV was located, which allegedly showed the 29-year-old woman was in fact responsible for the threatening activity.
Police will allege in court that the campaign was an attempt to frame the older woman, as a form of revenge over past court matters.
About 7.30am today (Wednesday 30 October 2019), a 29-year-old woman was arrested at a home on Thompson Avenue, St Marys.
She was taken to Penrith Police Station where she was charged with make false official instrument to pervert the course of justice, make false accusation with intent to subject other to investigation, threat to prevent information to police, dealing with identification information to commit indictable offence (x2), and act with intent obtain gain from carriage service provider.
She was refused bail to appear at Penrith Local Court today (Wednesday 30 October 2019).
The AVO proceedings against the 51-year-old woman have now been withdrawn.
