NSW police lay charges over sexual touching of teen and impersonation of police officer

A man will face court today charged over allegedly impersonating a police officer and sexually touching a teenage girl in Sydney’s south west.

Just before 3.30pm yesterday (Monday 2 September 2019), a 16-year-old girl was walking on Chapel Street at Roselands when she was allegedly grabbed by a man.

Police will allege in court that the man sexually touched the girl before she ran from the area.

It will also be alleged that the man then approached a group of school students and impersonated a police officer.

Officers from Campsie Police Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, a 66-year-old man was arrested on the corner of Chapel and Phillip streets, Canterbury, about 4pm yesterday.

He was taken to Campsie Police Station, where he was charged with sexually touch another person without consent, and impersonate police officer.

The man was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today (Tuesday 3 September 2019).
