Police are appealing for information after reports of a child approach in the state’s west.

About 4pm (Saturday May 8 2021), a number of youths were at a park on Balo Street, Moree, when they were approached by an unknown man who offered drinks and food to the group.

Police have been told that after buying the youths food and drinks and engaging in a game of ‘tip’ with the children, two girls were inappropriately touched by the man who then chased them south toward Adelaide Street.

An adult then intervened and pursued the man on foot; he was last seen fleeing in a white flatbed truck, which was loaded at the time, south on Frome Street towards the Newell Highway.

Officers from New England Police District were notified a short time later and commenced an investigation.

As inquiries continue, police would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

He’s described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his 50s, of a slim build and has an olive complexion with grey hair. He was wearing a cowboy hat, white shirt, grey shorts and thongs at the time.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has dashcam vision from the area at the time, is urged to contact New England Police District or Crime Stoppers.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
