NSW police seek information after string of suspicious fires

Police are appealing for information following a number of suspicious fires – which are believed to be linked – in the Sutherland area between November 2021 and January 2022.

About 9.15pm on Friday 26 November 2021, police were called to Alexandra Avenue, Taren Point, following reports a boat and trailer were destroyed after being located alight.

About 10.45pm on Friday 21 January 2022, another boat, parked in a similar location on Alexandra Avenue, was destroyed after being found alight.

About 12.30am on Tuesday 25 January 2022, two vehicles – a grey Volkswagen Tiguan station wagon and a silver Volkswagen Amarok van – were located alight while parked in the driveway of the same residence on Alexandra Avenue. The fires were extinguished a short time later and both vehicles were seized for forensic examination.

No one was injured during the incidents; however, the total estimated damaged caused by the fires is believed to be over $250,000.

Officers attached to Sutherland Police Area Command are investigating the incidents, which are believed to be linked.
