NSW police seek pair over theft of dog statue

Investigators have released CCTV of a man and a woman who they believe might be able to assist with inquiries regarding the theft of a statue of a dog in Sydney’s south-west last year.

The alleged theft happened between 2.10am and 2.20am on Thursday 12 December 2019, at Edmondson Park Railway Station.

The statue of the dog, known as Caesar, is celebrated as one of 11 local tracker dogs that saved the lives of their handlers during the Vietnam War.

Officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command commenced an investigation and obtained CCTV footage of a silver car which drove into the railway station car park on Croatia Avenue.

A man and a woman were seen to park the car and return a short time later.

After numerous attempts, the man managed to remove the statue and place it into the boot of the car.

Despite numerous inquiries, police have been unable to locate the bronze statue of Caesar.

Police have now released descriptions of the pair who might be able to assist with inquiries.

The man is described as being of medium build, with short dark hair and an unshaven appearance. He is believed to be aged between 20 and 30 and was wearing a red hoodie and black tracksuit pants.

The woman is described as being of medium build with brown hair tied in a bun. She is believed to be aged between 20 and 30 and was wearing a white long-sleeved jumper and dark pants.

The car is described as a silver Toyota sedan fitted with a tow bar. The car would have had damage to the rear bumper bar.
