NSW police target outstanding warrants in Sydney’s south-west

Police across Sydney’s south-west region have launched a week-long operation targeting individuals wanted on outstanding warrants, as part of Operation Persistence.

The State Intelligence Command launched Operation Persistence in January this year (2022) and is working with police across the state to locate individuals wanted on outstanding warrants.

As part of the operation, officers attached to all nine South-West Metropolitan Region Police Area Commands – with assistance from specialist units – have been proactively doorknocking to locate wanted individuals between Saturday 12 March 2022 and Friday 18 March 2022.

The warrants relate to traffic and transport offences, property crime such as break, enter and steal, prohibited drug-related offences, armed robberies, firearms offences, and sexual-related offences.

Over the weekend, police attended 166 homes, arresting and charging 20 people wanted on outstanding warrants. A further two people were charged after handing themselves in at local police stations.

Of note, officers attached to Strike Force HAWK, stopped a Toyota Camry on Blaxcell Street, Granville, about 7:50pm yesterday (Sunday 13 March 2022).

Officers spoke to the front passenger, a 26-year-old man, who was subsequently arrested on an outstanding revocation of parole warrant for possess unauthorised pistol and resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.

These offences relate to a warrant issued at Mount Druitt Local Court on Wednesday 16 February 2022.

The man was taken to Granville Police Station where the outstanding warrant was executed. He was also charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon in relation to an incident at Bass Hill last month.

The St Marys man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Monday 14 March 2022).

Operation Commander, Detective Superintendent Simon Glasser, said calls to Crime Stoppers have already provided good information, which is actively being followed up.
