NSW police update: Fatal crash

A woman has died after a car and truck collided in the state’s Central West today.

Just after 6am (Friday 20 November 2020), emergency services were called to the Newell Highway, near Mirrool – about 50km south of West Wyalong – following reports of a crash.

Officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District attended and were told a Pantech truck, travelling south and a Holden Astra, travelling north, had collided.

A passenger in the Holden, a 33-year-old woman, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

A second female passenger was trapped before being released with the assistance of NSW Ambulance paramedics and Fire and Rescue NSW. She was airlifted to Canberra Hospital with internal injuries.

The Holden driver, a 29-year-old woman, was uninjured and taken to West Wyalong Hospital for mandatory testing.

The truck driver, a 36-year-old man, was uninjured and taken to Temora Hospital for mandatory testing before being arrested and taken to West Wyalong Police Station.

A crime scene was established with the Crash Investigation Unit investigating the circumstance surrounding the crash.

The Newell Highway is expected to remain closed for a number of hours between West Wyalong and Burley Griffin Way. For the latest traffic information, visit www.livetraffic.com.
