Police are urging the community to plan their trip ahead of time and travel safely on the roads as this year’s Emirates Australian Open golf competition gets into full swing.
The Emirates Australian Open 2019 competition begins tomorrow (Thursday 5 December 2019) and continues until Sunday 8 December 2019, at The Australian Golf Club, Rosebery.
A high-visibility police operation will be in place for the duration of the event, to ensure the safety and security of more than 35,000 people expected to descend on the course.
Major Events and Emergency Management Commander, Superintendent Gavin Dengate urged those making their way to the event to drive safely on the roads and utilise public transport where possible.
“With thousands of participants and spectators expected to attend the Emirates Australian Open over the next few days, police are urging all road-users to drive to the conditions and allow extra travel time as there may be traffic and delays,” Supt Dengate said.
“There is limited parking available at the event, so we urge golf-enthusiasts to familiarise themselves with public transport options and utilise the courtesy shuttle from Mascot Railway Station.
“For those that choose to consume alcohol throughout the day – act responsibly, do not drink to excess and look out for your mates.
“There will be additional police resources deployed across the four days as our number one priority is to deliver a safe and family-friendly event that everyone can enjoy,” said Supt Dengate.
