NT Emergency Service is adopting the Australian Warning System for Cyclones, Floods, and Storms across the Northern Territory.
This new system provides a national approach to information and warnings, alerting the community of potential weather hazards utilising a consistent set of icons that are recognisable no matter where in the country you are from.
Director Fleur O’Connor said, “Territorians will notice the language for the calls to action has changed. Each warning level will deliver more localised and targeted communication of risks, and clearer warnings about the action people need to take to stay safe.”
The Australian Warning System for Cyclones, Floods, and Storms is an important step forward for NT Emergency Service in its commitment to keeping the community safe. The new Australian Warning System includes the following three tiers of warnings:
• Advice;
• Watch and Act; and
• Emergency Warning.
“It will enable us to better prepare the community for what to do and how to respond to weather-related emergencies and ensure that the public is informed of potential hazards”, said Ms O’Connor.
