NTGS presents at Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada convention

The Northern Territory’s rich endowment of diverse mineral commodities will be showcased on the global stage this week at the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) convention, the world’s premier mineral exploration and mining convention, attracting attendees from over 132 countries.

Only five government geologists from around the world were invited to present at this key industry event, including Ian Scrimgeour, Northern Territory Geological Survey (NTGS) Executive Director, from the Department of Primary Industry and Resources, presenting on the Territory’s world-class pre-competitive exploration geoscience.

The Territory’s economy relies on a strong and diverse resources sector, underpinned by a vibrant exploration industry that can sustain the sector into the future, and PDAC is a key opportunity to showcase the Territory’s attractive exploration potential and cutting-edge programs to over 25,000 attendees.

“New geoscience is all about making the Territory a more attractive place for industry to invest in exploration, and our pre-competitive baseline datasets highlight our resource potential and lowers exploration risk,” Dr Scrimgeour said.

With the Territory recently ranked 13th in the world for mining investment attractiveness and 5th in the world for the best practise mineral potential, according to the Annual Survey of Mining Companies, it reinforces the importance of opportunities to promote the Territory’s wide range of mineral commodities.

“There are attractive new areas of prospectivity for minerals across the Territory, so it’s great to share our innovative geoscience programs and the large volumes of data we develop to unlock the resource potential of the Territory,” Mr Scrimgeour said.

Promoting the Territory’s resource potential and investment opportunities is part of the Northern Territory Government’s four-year Resourcing the Territory (2018-2022) initiative, the largest initiative ever undertaken to support resources exploration in the Northern Territory. It aims to make the Territory a preferred exploration investment destination and supports local businesses and communities that rely on the resources sector.
