A police officer has been injured following pursuits spanning two police districts on the state’s Far North Coast yesterday.
In the early hours of Tuesday 22 October 2019, a Subaru Liberty – bearing Queensland registration plates – was allegedly stolen from a Cabarita Beach address.
Then about 1.30pm, officers attached to Tweed/Byron Target Action Group noticed the vehicle driving erratically on Byangum Road, Murwillumbah.
A pursuit was initiated with the vehicle allegedly travelling at speeds of up to 100km/h.
The vehicle was abandoned and the male driver fled on foot.
A short time later, a white Hyundai i20 was allegedly stolen from a home at Bray Park.
Police located the vehicle and a second pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued out of the Murwillumbah area, with the vehicle allegedly travelling at speeds of up to 150km/h.
The vehicle drove onto Commissioners Creek Road, Commissioners Creek, when the driver did a U-turn and hit a highway patrol vehicle.
The male driver fled the scene on foot.
A male senior constable was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital for treatment to minor soft tissue damage; he has since been released.
Officers from Tweed/Byron Police District extensively searched nearby bushland, with assistance from the Police Dog Unit and Queensland PolAir; however, were unable to locate the man.
