Operation closure results in drug and firearm arrest

Detectives from State Crime Command’s Drug and Serious Crime Group have charged a man with firearm and drug offences and seized drugs, ammunition and cash following the closure of a firearm trafficking investigation operating throughout southeast Queensland.

Yesterday as part of Operation Sierra Second, members of the Drug and Serious Crime Group’s Firearms and Cannabis Team executed a search warrant at a Tanah Merah address where a baton, ammunition, fireworks, $147,000 in cash and quantities of methylamphetamine, cocaine, cannabis and GHB were seized.

A 38-year-old man was located and arrested at the address charged with four counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count each of supplying a category H weapon (handgun), possession of a category M weapon and explosives, receiving a stolen firearm, and possession of things used in a crime.

The arrest was the outcome of a three-month covert investigation by the Firearms and Cannabis Team.

The man is due to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court on August 26.
