Operation Regal rolls on

Police continue to be out in force as part of Operation Regal.

Two more drivers have joined the ever growing list of people who have had their car impounded for excessive speed or drink driving this weekend.

In Harcourt a 25-year-old probationary driver from Mount Waverley had his car impounded after he was detected travelling at 164km/h along the Calder about 6pm.

He managed to overtake an unmarked patrol car and weaved his way in and out of traffic in his Toyota Corolla before being intercepted.

His car has been impounded with towing costs of $1195 and he is expected to be charged on summons for speed dangerous and numerous other traffic offences.

In Wendouree State Highway Patrol officers were conducting drug and alcohol testing on Gillies Street.

About 4.50pm a 58-year-old Wendouree man provided a positive preliminary breath test.

He underwent an evidentiary test and returned an alleged result of 0.153%.

His licence was suspended and he faces towing costs of $1200.

He is expected to be summonsed for drink driving offences.

The state-wide operation commenced on Friday 7 June and will focus on impaired driving, increased traffic on rural roads, towing trailers and caravans, and trail bike riding in state forests and parks.

Enforcement activities will vary across the state with police focusing on traffic corridors that link metropolitan areas to popular holiday destinations including the high country (ski fields), Grampians and Lakes regions.

Operation Regal will run for four days from 12.01am Friday 7 June to 11.59pm Monday 10 June 2019.
