Logan Highway Patrol officers investigating alleged hooning across the District and surrounding suburbs in early November, 2022 have charged two men with multiple offences and seized their vehicles.
Around 4pm on Wednesday March 8, police intercepted an 18-year-old Logan man allegedly driving a blue Ford Focus on a suspended licence along Beenleigh Redland Bay Road at Cornubia.
Subsequent investigations resulted in the blue Ford Focus and a multi-coloured Ford Falcon utility being impounded for forfeiture due to allegations on the manner of driving.
The multi-coloured utility was the subject of police investigations for being allegedly used in hoon activity.
The 18-year-old man was charged with three counts of unlicenced driving (Type 2), one count of undue noise, two counts of driving unregistered and uninsured, two counts of non-compliant modification, two counts of Type 1 vehicle related offence – burnout and other driving offences.
He is expected to appear before Beenleigh Magistrates Court on May 9.
Following further investigations, around 7.30am on Thursday March 9, police executed a search warrant at a Logan address allegedly locating drug paraphernalia, clothing, phones and a vehicle
A second 18-year-old Logan man was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to provide access to data (electronics), fail to give statutory declaration, unlicenced driving, damaging evidence with intent and possess drug utensil.
He is expected to appear before Beenleigh Magistrates Court on March 30.
Police will allege both men, who are known to each other, posted videos of hooning activity to social media.
The vehicles involved have been impounded pending finalisation of the matters in court.
These videos along with information from the public formed part of police investigations, which remain ongoing.
Police attached to ‘Operation Victor Kamino’ continue to target, disrupt and prosecute alleged hooning activity across Logan district and encourage the community to report and securely upload digital evidence including videos and photos of offences online via its Axon Citizen platform. As part of the operation, a high- visibly police contingent was deployed to Greenbank on Monday March 13 and Sunday March 19, resulting in 40 arrested on 47 charges, including 11 alleged drink-drivers, 9 alleged drug-drivers and 27 alleged unlicenced drivers.
262 traffic infringements have been issued, including 29 for defective vehicles.
Since January 1 2023, Operation Victor Kamino has resulted in the impoundment of four vehicles, three number-plate confiscations and three people charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
