Mount Lawley Senior High School is set to expand into the current Edith Cowan University campus in Mount Lawley as part of a plan to transition the school into specialist performing and visual arts facilities.
Under the new City Deal, agreed to by the Commonwealth and State governments, the ECU Mount Lawley campus will transition into the Perth CBD in 2025.
As a result, Mount Lawley Senior High School will expand to incorporate the world-class WA Academy of Performing Arts facilities. Additionally students will continue to enjoy access to the ECU Sport and Fitness gym.
The McGowan Government will also work on opportunities to expand classroom facilities at the school, in order to accommodate future enrolment growth.
Mount Lawley Senior High School currently offer approved specialist programs in jazz music, and visual and performing arts.
A working group, chaired by Mount Lawley MLA Simon Millman, will be established to develop a masterplan for the site and surrounding area.
The masterplan will identify opportunities to encourage vibrancy as well as examine opportunities for the land to be used for education and community purposes.
As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:
“My Government is committed to investing in the future of Mount Lawley and Mount Lawley Senior High School.
“This is an excellent opportunity for our students to have access to top quality facilities throughout their formative high school years.
“We will continue working with the community of Mount Lawley to ensure the site becomes a location everyone can enjoy.”
As stated by Transport and Planning Minister Rita Saffioti:
“Moving Edith Cowan University from its current campus opens up realms of opportunity, not just for Mount Lawley Senior High School students but for the broader community.
“A masterplan will be developed for the site and surrounding areas, opening up new and exciting opportunities for one of Perth’s most popular inner suburbs.”
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
“Mount Lawley Senior High School will soon have access to the world-class Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts facilities.
“The student intake will soon increase from 1,650 to more than 2,200, giving more children the opportunity to access unique programs.
“This is a great outcome for public school students, giving them a world-class education.”

“Transferring refurbished WAAPA assets to Mount Lawley Senior High School will ensure that the Enright Studio, Richard Gill Auditorium and Geoff Gibbs Theatre live on.
“Edith Cowan University has long been a staple of the Mount Lawley community and there are many who will be sad to see it go.
“However the opportunities presented to our local students, who will now have access to world-class performing arts facilities, and for our broader community are exciting.”
