Outstanding results for Nepean Cancer and Wellness Centre

Patients have given high ratings of the care they received at the Nepean Cancer and Wellness Centre, according to a new independent survey.

The patient feedback, outlined in the Bureau of Health Information’s (BHI) Outpatient Cancer Clinics Survey 2023, shows nearly all patients surveyed (98 per cent) rated their overall care as ‘very good’ or ‘good’.

Dr Amanda Stevanovic, Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Director of Cancer Services, said the Nepean Cancer and Wellness Centre received very positive ratings from patients across a range of aspects of care.

“Each patient’s journey with us is incredibly personal. We pride ourselves on delivering patient-centred care that’s tailored to the individual needs of each person,” Dr Stevanovic said.

“Pleasingly, almost all patients surveyed (98 per cent) rated the staff who treated them during their outpatient appointments as ‘very good’ and ‘good’.

“Patients also indicated that staff at the centre were polite and courteous, kind and caring, and felt they were treated with respect and dignity during their appointments.

“Patients also highly rated the teamwork and communication between health professionals and reported that staff explained things in a way that could be understood.

“We’re committed to delivering a compassionate and holistic cancer service. Learning from these survey results and the experiences of our patients will help us to continue providing high quality care.”

One patient reported, “The kindness, patience and helpfulness of all the nurses, staff and doctors has been remarkable. They managed to make an unpleasant business quite bearable.”

Another said, “Staff were extremely kind and engaging with me. At some points I didn’t even feel like I was getting treatment, more like just chatting with my mates.”

While a third patient shared, “To date my total experience with the centre has been exceptional. From the reception area to day ward and doctor, I could not speak highly enough. Just wonderful, professional people.”
