Overdue Party in Beswick

Northern Territory Police search for overdue man South of Beswick.

Early this week a vehicle travelling between on Mataranka and Beswick on an unmaintained track broke down. A male and female separated from others in the group, wanting to walk the 12 km’s back to Beswick. When the female arrived at Beswick she was dehydrated and in poor physical condition.

A land search commenced for a 27-year-old man from Beswick, described as aboriginal appearance, 165mm tall and 45kgs. Last seen wearing only dark shorts, no shirt and carrying a blue backpack.

Search conditions are difficult, with temperatures of 40 degrees and very little recent rain in the area. Resources being used in this search include 20 police officers, 3 NTES volunteers, two helicopters and numerous vehicles.

Acting Superintendent of Central Division Tanya Woodcock said “Local police and community had grave concerns for the wellbeing of the missing man, and the full scale search continues. This is a reminder for anyone lost in the bush to stay with your vehicle until help arrives.”
