Pallas’ spray at NSW Labor Premier a distraction from new taxes

Liberal Party Victoria

Treasurer Tim Pallas’ attack on the NSW Labor Premier over GST distribution must be seen for what it is – a distraction from Victoria’s record debt and his repeated failure to rule out new taxes on Victorians in the upcoming State Budget.

With Victoria set to receive an additional $3.7 billion in GST revenue in 2024-25, Labor seems determined to hit households and business with even more taxes in just a few weeks’ time.

This is despite an ongoing cost-of-living crisis, record debt, and more than 50 taxes introduced or increased since Labor came to office in 2014.

Shadow Treasurer, Brad Rowswell, said: “Jacinta Allan and Tim Pallas have no excuses left. They must rule out any new or increased taxes in the upcoming State Budget.

“Labor’s financial mismanagement means every Victorian will be paying more and getting less. These tax hikes come in addition to flagged cuts to critical frontline services including health and education.

“With 53 new or increased taxes introduced since Labor came to office almost a decade ago and debt set to reach $177.8 billion by June 2027, it’s clear Labor cannot manage money and every Victorian is paying the price.”
