Parkes Bypass & Special Activation Precinct Local Business Information Session

Parkes Shire

Parkes Shire Council and the Parkes Chamber of Commerce are hosting an information session for local businesses to find out how they can benefit from the Parkes Bypass and the Parkes Special Activation Precinct. The information session will be held at the Parkes Golf Club from 6-7.30pm on Wednesday 24 November 2021.

In August 2021, it was announced that Georgiou Group Pty Ltd has been chosen to carry out the Australian and NSW Government’s $187.2 million Parkes Bypass project, following a competitive tender process.

The 10.5 kilometre bypass will be a game-changer for not just Parkes but the entire Central West region, supporting the freight industry, fuelling economic growth, and improving access and safety along this vital transport corridor.

This project is important to the community and to delivering better journeys for freight, farmers and other motorists. With construction commencing, the bypass is on track to be open to traffic in 2024.

Construction of the Parkes Special Activation Precinct is now underway, with early works having commenced in September.

The Special Activation Precinct will ensure that Parkes continues to boast a strong diverse economy and will create jobs and opportunities for the whole region when completed, particularly efficiently linking agricultural value-added products to world markets.

Council’s Economic & Business Development Manager Anna Wyllie said, “We have been working closely with Transport for NSW and Regional Growth NSW Development Corporation to ensure local businesses are equipped with the information they need to leverage the benefits of these projects.

“These two major projects will create job and business opportunities for not only Parkes, but for the region,” said Anna.

President of the Parkes Chamber of Commerce Geoff Rice said the event will be a great opportunity to for businesses to hear about the projects and network with the major contractors delivering these two projects, who will be looking to engage local suppliers and businesses for project work packages.

“The construction tenderers will be looking for a wide range of services for these projects. This information session will ensure our businesses are equipped with the information they need to find out how they can get involved,” said Geoff.
