Access to Logans Gardens will soon be easier with works on a wide and welcoming parkway now underway.
The shared parkway will extend through the south-eastern corner of the Logan Central venue, linking the Civic Parade carpark to the top of Rosny Court (off Karri Avenue) on the park’s southern boundary.
It will provide pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles with better access to Logan Garden’s popular facilities, which include a large adventure playground, a water play area, a basketball court, toilets and fitness equipment.
Pedestrians and cyclists will have priority access along the parkway with vehicles limited to 10km/h. The parkway will include some parking bays.
Seating will provide parkway users with places to rest, while colourful artworks and landscaped gardens will add to the visual appeal of the area.
Safety cameras and lighting will also be installed while the existing carpark will be expanded.
Mayor Darren Power said good urban infrastructure allowed more people to enjoy the city’s public spaces.
“Council is proud to deliver projects that improve the liveability of our suburbs,” Cr Power said.
“This pathway will become an important and scenic connection for pedestrians and public transport users in Logan Central.”
Economic Development Chair Councillor Jon Raven said the project was a key priority of Council’s Logan Central Civic and Community Precinct Plan, and an outcome of the Logan Central Summit.
“With plenty of green and play space for all ages, Logan Gardens is one of the best parks in our city,” Cr Raven said.
“This new parkway, and more parking facilities, will mean locals, community groups and visitors to our city can enjoy everything it has to offer.”
Division 2 Councillor Teresa Lane said project would provide easier access for park users of all ages and abilities.
“When the trees and gardens bloom, the parkway will become a Logan Gardens attraction in its own right,” Cr Lane said.
“Importantly, the shared parkway will not only improve connectivity across the area, it will become a destination for locals and visitors.”
The Logan Gardens Shared Parkway is jointly funded by Logan City Council, and the Queensland Government, which provided $1.35 million towards the project from its Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.
Woodridge MP, Queensland Treasurer and Minister for Trade and Investment Cameron Dick said the Queensland Government is delivering infrastructure projects that benefit the community.
“The Logan Gardens Shared Parkway will improve access throughout the Logan Gardens area, and that means more members of the community are able to enjoy more facilities,” Mr Dick said.
“Logan is one of the State’s most vibrant, energetic, and exciting places to live in Queensland and this project will further improve the area’s liveability for residents and visitors.”
Construction is expected to be completed by June 2024.
Residents in the Logan Gardens area will be notified in advance of any impacts to parking, driveway or footpath access in the area.
There may also be temporary interruptions to local water, sewer and power services as works are carried out.
