Here is what your MP’s have been up to the past few weeks in parliament and out in the community.
Shooter Targets, Forestry Fights and Standing Up for Regional NSW
It has been another huge sitting fortnight in Parliament with the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party continuing to push back against government overreach, bad legislation, attacks on regional communities and providing leadership regarding self defence. From the ongoing failures of the leadership of NSW Police and the Firearms Registry to the impact of renewable energy projects on landholders, we have continued fighting for practical outcomes, accountability and common sense. We also stood up strongly for forestry workers, hunters, fishers and ordinary law abiding people who are increasingly being punished for government failures.
Firearms Registry Management Continue to Unravel
Mark Banasiak and Robert Borsak continued leading the charge on the growing failures inside the NSW Firearms Registry and the rushed firearms laws introduced after Bondi. During Question Time and take note debates, Mark pressed the Government over evidence heard at the royal commission that critical intelligence analyst positions inside the registry had been removed and then left vacant for several years despite acknowledged public safety risks.
Mark challenged the Government over contradictory evidence from senior police and exposed the reality that lawful firearms owners were being blamed for failures that were clearly administrative and intelligence related. Robert also renewed calls for the Firearms Registry to be removed from direct police control and replaced with an independent authority focused on proper professional administration rather than political reaction, bureaucratic overreach and the police anti gun agenda.
The Party also continued raising concerns about discretionary permit refusals, poor technology systems and the treatment of licensed firearm owners who continue to pay the price for failures they did not create.

Standing Up for Regional Communities Against Renewable Energy Overreach
Renewable energy rollout and the treatment of regional communities remained a major focus this fortnight. Mark Banasiak delivered several strong speeches calling out the conduct of EnergyCo and contractors operating across regional NSW.
In Parliament, Mark raised serious concerns about landholder intimidation, alleged trespassing incidents, poor consultation processes and the cumulative impact renewable projects are having on farming communities and water resources. He criticised the Government’s push to fast track renewable approvals while reducing oversight and ignoring the concerns of the very communities expected to host these developments.

Mark also warned that regional NSW is increasingly being treated as a sacrifice zone for poorly managed energy policy designed by Sydney based bureacrats rather than with the consent local communities. The Party will continue standing with landholders and regional residents who deserve genuine consultation, proper protections and respect for property rights.

Defending Forestry and Regional Jobs
Mark Banasiak also delivered a strong adjournment speech defending the timber industry and opposing the proposed Great Koala National Park. Mark highlighted years of uncertainty facing forestry workers, contractors and regional communities while the Government continues delaying a promised Forestry Industry Action Plan.
Mark pointed out the hypocrisy of a government talking about housing affordability while simultaneously restricting access to one of Australia’s most important and affordable renewable building materials. He warned that shutting down local forestry will simply offshore jobs and increase imported timber while doing nothing for the environment.

The Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party reaffirmed its position opposing new national park lockups and supporting guaranteed wood supply agreements, science based forestry management and long term certainty for regional jobs.

Protecting Hunters, Fishers and Public Land Access
This fortnight also saw continued advocacy for public land hunters, recreational fishers and outdoor users. Robert Borsak defended the important role licensed hunters play in feral animal control and called for greater support for public land hunting opportunities across NSW.
Mark Banasiak also spoke out against campaigns targeting fishing and spearfishing access at places like Mona Vale Basin and Long Reef. He warned against activist driven lockouts that unfairly target ordinary recreational fishers while ignoring the broader importance of public access to waterways and outdoor recreation.

The Party remains committed to protecting public land access and ensuring hunters and fishers are not pushed aside by urban ideology and excessive regulation.

Fighting Bad Laws and Defending Common Sense
Both Mark Banasiak and Robert Borsak spoke strongly against several pieces of legislation this fortnight that risk undermining fairness, judicial discretion and civil liberties.
Robert opposed elements of the Hate Crimes Bill, warning that vague drafting and reckless incitement provisions risk creating overly broad offences and expanding subjective criminal liability. He argued that laws targeting genuine violence should remain focused on deliberate criminal conduct rather than politically charged interpretations.

Robert delivered a major speech opposing the Government’s expanded Good Character sentencing reforms. He warned the legislation would remove important judicial discretion and punish ordinary first offenders alongside hardened criminals. In a second speech Mark also argued the reforms ignore the difference between lifelong criminality and a single lapse in judgement by otherwise decent citizens. The Liberal and the National party backflipped on their previous position supporting amendments that removed good character references for serious offences but provided for fairness minor offences.

The Party will continue opposing legislation driven by headlines, woke ideology, and virtue signalling from gutless opposition benches, rather than practical outcomes and fair legal principles.
Backing Better Infrastructure for Regional NSW
Mark Banasiak also used the sitting fortnight to continue highlighting failures in regional infrastructure delivery. He criticised waste and delays surrounding Inland Rail and regional funding programs while supporting stronger scrutiny of the Regional Roads Fund.
Mark also backed calls for documents relating to the Gunnedah Hospital helipad project, arguing regional communities deserve proper aeromedical infrastructure and healthcare access rather than endless delays and excuses.

As always, the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party will continue fighting for regional communities, lawful firearms owners, forestry workers, hunters, fishers and ordinary Australians who are tired of being ignored by the major parties. Whether it is standing up against bad laws, defending property rights or demanding accountability from government agencies, we remain focused on protecting the freedoms and livelihoods of the people we represent.
