A fugitive parolee has been transferred by New South Wales Police back into Corrective Services custody tonight, following his arrest in an inner-Sydney street.
Police were alerted around 4.15pm yesterday (Sunday 7 April) when the 50-year-old man, on conditional parole, allegedly left the Prince of Wales Hospital at Randwick and then removed his electronic monitoring anklet.
Police formed Strike Force Fugam, led by the Surry Hills Region Enforcement Squad (RES), to re-locate the man.
Additional officers from the Eastern Beaches, Inner West and Surry Hills Police Area Commands; the Real Time Intelligence Centre, Police Transport Command, Operation Odin, the Dog Unit and Redfern Region Enforcement Squad aided the investigation into the man’s whereabouts.
At 4.57pm today (Monday 8 April), the man was spotted by plain clothes officers walking along Church Street at Petersham.
He was arrested without incident and taken to the Newtown Police Station.
The man was transferred back into the custody of Corrective Services NSW officers at Surry Hills this evening.
Police have not laid any charges.
