The NSW State Emergency Service and NSW SES Volunteers Association
are ensuring volunteers learn how to identify and manage the potential mental
health triggers in themselves and others by funding a Mental Health First Aid
course in Moruya this weekend.
The course will also provide information on where to get professional support,
treatment options and teaches coping strategies.
“The NSW SES is committed to promoting and protecting the mental health
and wellbeing of all our volunteers,” says South Eastern Zone Commander –
Chief Superintendent Colin Malone.
Twenty NSW SES volunteers will participate in the two-day course and will
receive an accredited ‘Mental Health First Aid’ qualification which is valid for
three years.
“The Volunteers Association continues to champion mental health support
mechanisms for the volunteers, who support their communities 24×7 as first
responders. Providing this course is just one way was are doing that,” says
NSW SES Volunteers Association President Kim Davis.
