A man has been arrested and police are continuing to search for the driver of a stolen Maserati after it allegedly rammed a police vehicle, and injured an officer in Sydney’s south west today.
About 10.10am (Thursday 22 October 2020), officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command detected a Maserati, that had been reported stolen from West Pennant Hills on Tuesday (20 October 2020), travelling south along Evelyn Street, Macquarie Fields.
Police followed the vehicle into Oakley Road, Long Point, and signalled for the car to pull over. The vehicle allegedly failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated. It was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.
When the vehicle reached a dead end on Wedderburn Road, it allegedly struck a marked police car, before the three occupants exited the car and fled the scene on foot.
One of the passengers, a 25-year-old man, fled into nearby bushland where it’s alleged he stabbed a senior constable in the hand with a screwdriver before being arrested on O’Hares Road, Wedderburn.
He was taken to Campbelltown Police Station and charged with be carried in conveyance taken w/o consent of owner, wound person with intent to resist/prevent arrest, assault police officer in execution of duty, possess prohibited drug.
The man was refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court tomorrow (Friday 23 October 2020).
A search perimeter was established, with assistance from the Dog Unit and PolAir, however, the driver of the vehicle and a second passenger is yet to be located.
