Path creative signage urges safety while outdoors

With more than 1214km of pathways on the Sunshine Coast – walkers, riders and scooters are spoilt for choice.

As the pathways grow in popularity and in response to feedback from path users, a new series of creative signage is being rolled out to encourage all users to share the path with care.

Transport Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said the signage would be installed between July 1 and July 10 (weather permitting) to spread the word about how to enjoy the path safely.

“Getting out and about on pathways is a great way to boost physical and mental health, but it is important to remember that pathways are a shared public space,” Cr Baberowski said.

“We’ve created a Share the Path program, to explain pathway etiquette to improve safety, reduce conflict between pathway users and ensure everyone has fun.

“The creative signage along the Coastal Pathway, council’s longest shared pathway, will remind users to practice good pathway etiquette.

“The golden rule of shared pathways is to be mindful of other users.

“Next time you’re on a pathway remember to keep left and pass on the right, keep animals on a short leash, slow down, let people know when approaching and give way to others,” he said.

He said the Share the Path campaign aimed to remind everyone to pay attention and communicate while on pathways with the goal to improve safety.

Shared pathways are for everyone, cyclists, walkers with or without animals, scooters, skateboarders and mobility aids.

The Share the Path program is a joint initiative funded by Sunshine Coast Council and the Queensland Government’s Community Road Safety Grants scheme.
