Lake Mac will come to life with the sound of music in coming months as its Live Music Lake Mac program kicks off for another year.
Larger-than-life brass collective Hot Potato Band launch the 2024 program on Friday 19 April with an energetic and interactive performance at Rathmines Theatre.
The band was one of the highlights of last year’s Feast for the Senses in Speers Point Park, straddling genres and creating a visual spectacle for all ages.
ARIA-nominated Indigenous singer-songwriter Emma Donovan will perform her Songs, Stories and Soul from Family and Country show at Warners Bay Theatre on 16 May, while the Buddy Knox Project will deliver unforgettable blues at the same venue on 24 July.
Golden Guitar winners Darlinghurst round out the program with a show supported by Lake Mac singer-songwriter Piper Butcher at Warners Bay Theatre on 11 October.
Separate to Live Music Lake Mac, the Lake Macquarie Philharmonic returns to the Multi-Arts Pavilion, mima, on Sunday 28 April with its Orchestral Pops concert, featuring much-loved works by Strauss, Tchaikovsky and other renowned composers.
Storied local vocalists Ashlee Woodgate (soprano) and Sam Elmi (tenor) will accompany the performance.
Lake Macquarie Mayor Kay Fraser said the upcoming events would cater for a broad audience.
“Cultural and creative events contribute so much to our city, not just in terms of activating our economy but by engaging the community through music and performance,” she said.
“I’ve seen first-hand the enjoyment people derive from Live Music Lake Mac and Lake Mac Philharmonic shows, and I’m sure it will be just the same with this year’s line-up.”
