  • Perth will host some of the world’s best tennis players as part of the new nation-versus-nation Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Cup teams’ event from January 2020.

Joining Sydney and Brisbane, Perth is one of three cities to host the new competition which is set to attract more than 100 of the world’s best male tennis players.

The ATP Cup will be second only to the four Grand Slam tournaments and will see the world’s top players compete for 750 highly coveted ATP ranking points and $A22 million in prize money.

The ATP Cup will involve players from 24 nations. The Perth group stages will feature at least two of the top six players in the world, and four of the top 12. RAC Arena will host the Perth event, which will feature 12 sessions played over six days.

The State Government, through Tourism WA, has secured the event for WA for six years.

The event holder, Tennis Australia, expects it to attract interstate and international visitors and generate significant global media coverage.

In addition to launching the ATP Cup, Tennis Australia is also exploring the potential for a high-quality professional international women’s tennis event to join the program in Perth in the future.

As stated by Tourism Minister Paul Papalia:

“All eyes will be on Perth when the new ATP Cup launches the global tennis season each year. With 750 ATP ranking points and approximately $A22 million in prize money, the ATP Cup is guaranteed to attract the best international tennis and players to Perth every summer.

“Tennis holds a special place in the hearts of many WA people, myself included, and this new event will ensure we build on that tradition and provide fans with more opportunities to experience world-class tennis in Perth.

“This new tournament is expected to attract even more media interest, which will provide a valuable opportunity to promote Perth and our State to a global audience.”
