Pet registration renewals due

The City of Greater Bendigo has sent out more than 21,000 pet registration renewals that are due for payment by April 10, 2023.

Manager Safe and Healthy Environments Jock Schofield said Greater Bendigo has over 15,500 registered dogs and 5,500 registered cats on its database.

“All dogs and cats over the age of three months must be registered with the City and microchipped,” Mr Schofield said.

“Registration fees go towards the City’s local law services that respond to wandering dogs, dog attacks, nuisance problems like barking dogs, cat trespass and un-owned animals.

“It is really important pet owners re-register their pets and know the benefits.

“Pet registration is a basic measure that can help ensure the pet is returned if it gets lost or escapes from a property.

“If pets are unregistered their owner may be liable for unnecessary pound fees if their unregistered pets are reported wandering and our City officers cannot return them directly to their homes.

“If residents no longer have a pet that was previously registered, they should also contact the City so our records can be updated.”

Pet registrations can be paid in person at City of Greater Bendigo offices in Bendigo and Heathcote or online at www.bendigo.vic.gov.au Other payment options are listed on the renewal notice. Please note payments cannot be made at Australia Post.
