Pet sterilisation funding to help relieve cost-of-living pressures

  • $1.5 million allocated to assist eligible pet owners to sterilise their dogs and cats
  • $500,000 committed per year over three years to Subsidised Pet Sterilisation Program
  • Expressions of interest to be sought from service providers

The Cook Labor Government has committed $1.5 million over three years to support Western Australians facing cost-of-living pressures by reducing the cost of pet sterilisation.

The Subsidised Pet Sterilisation Program will support organisations to offer subsidised sterilisation for dogs and cats to eligible pet owners.

As part of the 2026-27 State Budget, $500,000 in grants will be allocated this financial year to improve access to pet sterilisation for eligible pet owners.

Subsidised sterilisation will be available for dog and cat owners with a WA Seniors Card, Pensioner Concession Card, or a Health Care Card.

To qualify for the subsidy, owners will need to provide a valid concession card, proof of identification, and proof of ownership of the pet being sterilised at a participating vet clinic.

Interested service providers can apply from today, Monday, 2 November, at: www.wa.gov.au/organisation/local-government/subsidised-pet-sterilisation-program

As stated by Local Government Minister Hannah Beazley:
