Works commencing at The Saddle this week will make it easier and safer for visitors to get out and enjoy all that Mount Archer has to offer.

The Saddle redevelopment is proudly supported by the Queensland Government. Works are funded 50/50 by the Queensland Government and Rockhampton Regional Council.

Infrastructure Portfolio Spokesperson Councillor Tony Williams said the project will include the construction of 18 carparks and 400 metres of footpath.

“Mount Archer has always held a special place in the hearts of those who have lived in and visited this Region,” said Cr Williams.

“And the work that has gone into this area over the last few years has made an incredible difference.

“This project will be a welcome development, and will help to establish The Saddle–halfway up Mount Archer–as an access point for some great walks.

“The footpath will also connect to a pre-existing path downhill from The Saddle, improving safety for those walking up the mountain.

“I would like to thank residents and visitors for being patient as these works progress. As we’ve seen before, it will be worth it in the end!”

Works on the carpark and footpath have begun this week, and will be completed this winter. Throughout the works there will be traffic controls in place.

The total project cost is $490,000, with $245,000 contributed by the Queensland Government through the Transport and Tourism Connections (TTC) program.
