Plan to bring Tanks’ history to life

Council will apply to the Australian Government’s Veterans Affairs Saluting Their Service Grants Program for funding to develop a digital media platform detailing the construction of the fuel tanks at Collins Avenue during WWII.

The grant program, which closes March 31, aims to preserve Australian’s wartime heritage and highlight the service and sacrifice of Australia’s service personnel in wars, conflicts and peace operations.

Council is seeking a $150,000 grant to develop a new digital interpretive and promotional platform to tell the story of the Queensland Heritage-listed former WWII fuel installation, now the Tanks Art Centre.

As part of the project, Council will commission heritage consultant, Gordon Grimwade – Write Shutter, to provide research, preparation and production of electronic media with a focus on the historical significance of the historic fuel site and the impact of WWII on the Far North.
