Plans for CCTV following skate park vandalism

Horsham Rural City Council is exploring options for enhanced CCTV along Park Drive after two senseless attacks on Horsham’s skate park in recent weeks.

Shade sails were torn, a seat and table setting was uprooted and various metal boxes were severely dented. The damage has since been repaired.

Anybody who witnesses vandalism should contact council and police immediately.

Mayor Robyn Gulline said it was disappointing that such a popular community asset had been abused so badly.

“It’s so disappointing for everybody, especially the regular users of the skate park who take such pride in the facility only to be let down by these senseless acts by other people,” she said.

“The unfortunate fact is that the community wears the bill and legitimate skaters have to wait for the repairs to be done.

“Enough is enough, these people will not be getting away with this anymore.”

Cr Gulline said options for the proposed camera roll out were being explored right now including sourcing grant funding.

“I wish there was no need for CCTV cameras at the skate park but experience demonstrates there is.

“The proposed CCTV camera roll out is about giving the skate park back to the community and I make no apology for that.”
