Police appeal for information on Footscray jewellery shop armed robbery

Gang Crime Squad investigators are appealing for assistance after an armed robbery at a jewellery shop in Footscray today.

Three males perceived to be of African appearance used hammers to force entry to the Paisley Street store around 10.39am.

The males, who were dressed in dark clothing and wearing masks, then smashed open cabinets inside the store.

No staff members were injured during the incident.

At this stage it is unknown what was taken.

It is believed the males left the scene in a black BMW SUV with stolen plates, registration ZKD705, which was being driven by a fourth male.

The vehicle travelled west on Paisley Street, before turning south on Albert Street.
