Police appeal to identify woman after bus spitting incident in Haymarket

Police are appealing for public assistance after a woman spat on a bus driver in Sydney’s CBD yesterday.

About 5pm (Wednesday 6 May 2020), a woman boarded a bus stopped on Eddy Avenue in Haymarket while carrying a dog.

The bus driver, a man aged 44, advised her that dogs were not permitted onboard the bus and that he would call police if she didn’t alight.

After first refusing to leave the bus and sitting on a rear seat, the woman stood up and walked towards the bus driver and spat on him before she left the bus via the front doors.

Officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command were alerted to the incident and have released CCTV of a woman who may be able to assist with inquiries.

The woman is described as being Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander in appearance, about 50 years old, with a medium build. She was last seen wearing a purple top with pink jeans and was carrying brown and white dog.

If anyone has information about the incident, or recognises the woman depicted, contact Sydney City Police on (02) 9265 6468.
