Police arrest driver after crashing into house in Emerton

A man wanted on warrants has been arrested after the car he was driving crashed into a house at Emerton overnight.

About 8.20pm (Tuesday 10 November 2020), police noticed a Holden Commodore station wagon allegedly travelling in excess of the speed limit on Luxford Road, Bidwell.

At the intersection of Palmyra Avenue police attempted to stop the driver, however it is alleged he accelerated, and a police pursuit commenced for a short distance before it was terminated.

The Holden Commodore was later sighted by Polair who followed the vehicle through several suburbs including St Mary’s, Tregear and Emerton.

As the car entered the roundabout at Popondetta and Woodstock Street at Emerton, the driver lost control and the car crashed into a parked Mercedes van and then into the front of a house in Arundell Street.

The driver – and sole occupant – ran from the car into Wyanda Reserve where he was arrested.

The house sustained significant damage and the 75-year-old female occupant was uninjured. She was taken to hospital and treated for shock.

The 29-year-old driver was taken to Riverstone Police Station and charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, not exchange particulars, not give particulars to owner of damaged property, drive while licence cancelled, and goods in custody.

He was also charged with three outstanding warrants.

He was refused bail and will appear in Mt Druitt local Court today (Wednesday 11 November 2020).
