Police arrest man after series of criminal damage

Detectives from Stonnington Criminal Investigation Unit arrested a man in Prahran yesterday after he set fire to a bag of clothing donated to charity.

It is also alleged he stole shoes from a business on Chapel Street earlier in the day and is responsible for a series of criminal damage incidents.

It is alleged approximately 58 vehicles had their paintwork scratched in the Toorak, South Yarra, St Kilda West, South Melbourne and Port Melbourne areas between 14 December and 16 January.

The 39-year-old of no fixed address has been charged with 58 counts of criminal damage, arson and theft.

He has been remanded in custody to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 21 January.
